Sterling, VA - February 28, 2005 - A bipartisan collection of Loudoun County residents announce today the formation of BlackOut 2005 - a political action committee dedicated to opposing the candidacy of Richard H. ("Dick") Black for the Virginia House of Delegates.
"Dick Black is not only extreme, but also extremely ineffective at representing residents of the 32nd District. We need a Delegate to be advocating for Loudoun County. Black has ignored real issues like education, safety and transportation. His obsession with promoting a political agenda and his severe beliefs are crippling Loudoun County. His negligence and extremism has crystallized into a total lack of influence in the House - influence Loudoun needs now on real, local issues," said Glenn W. Maravetz of Ashburn. "Whether with a Republican or Democrat, liberal or conservative, Loudoun County must replace Dick Black. A new voice will mean a lot to Loudoun."
The PAC also announces the launch of its website, www.BlackOut2005.com, where they plan to document over 100 reasons to get Black out of office. "From his embarrassing legislative record, his grandstanding and divisive antics, his misrepresentations to the public and to his colleagues, his disinterest in funding public education, his patronizing view of women, his embrace of censorship, disregard for religious and civil liberties, lack of influence on other Delegates, and his ideas about government as Big Brother, BlackOut 2005 will show voters the truth about Dick Black," continued Maravetz.
Dick Black currently represents the 32nd district in the Virginia House of Delegates, which is located entirely in Loudoun County and comprises all of the Sugarland Run and Broad Run districts, along with a large portion of the Potomac district and a small portion of the Dulles district. He took office during a special mid-term election in 1998 and is easily and widely considered one of Virginia's most radically conservative legislators.
"BlackOut 2005 will also document the contrast between Dick Black's extreme agenda and that of his Republican colleagues in the General Assembly, demonstrating that Black is far out of the mainstream within his own party," said Wade R. Sharp of Potomac Falls, who serves as the PAC’s Treasurer. "BlackOut 2005 will awaken and educate voters to the truth about Dick Black. He's not a good Delegate. He's not even a good Republican."
BlackOut 2005 is a non-partisan PAC, not authorized by any candidate, candidate's committee or political committee. For more information, go to www.BlackOut2005.com.
